Perola's

Diego's been talking about Perola's for way over a minute now and up until last weekend I felt like I was the only one who hadn't messed with a cactus taco. There's a kitchen way in the the back of Perola's South American supermarket in Kensington. I suppose people only know about it through word of mouth cause it's super down low. I hope I'm not letting the cat out of the bag or anything but I had to post this slop cause it was truly grand. I didn't even know you could eat cactus but apparently you can, they slice it, grill it then fry up Oaxaca cheese, lay it on a fresh tortilla and smother with sauce, so delicious! I also got the carnitas taco, tender spicy pulled pork, my god. Topped it off with a fresh chicken tamale. This spot is cheap too! $2.50 - $3.00 for each item. You can also get papusas, tostadas and pozole. This spot is legit, rinse it soon. Open weekends Sat 9am - 6:30pm, Sun 11am - 6pm. 247 Augusta Ave. (at Nassau St.) 416-593-9728
