c5 Restaurant

This wouldn't be the kind of spot we'd normally hit for brunch, but our good friend Jon is the Chef de Partie here and said he was gonna put something special together for us, special was an understatement. c5 is the restaurant in the recently renovated R.O.M, a big clean space with a great view and even better food. We got treated to a 7 course brunch tasting menu (8 if you include the pastry platter). We started off with virgin mojitos and caesars, pastries and dollar pancakes, followed by a plate of Jamon Ibérico (black pig from Spain, similar to prosciutto, but less salty and, with a nuttier flavour) hand made chicken liver pâté, headcheese and mortadella. A sweet course followed with hot waffle points, fresh fruit salad and almond ice cream. Next came a 65° poached egg on croissant with melted gruyere, it was so rich. The best corse in our opinion was Jon's own creation of smoked mackerel, house-made fresh bagel and cream cheese, with horseradish foam. You think we're done yet? Beef tongue followed, along with pork sausage! Needless to say we were rinsed. We ended with a simple desert of mango custard, raspberry sorbet and a shard of dark chocolate. Whew! Now this may not be fair to the rest of you guys, but I had to share the experience. Check them out sometime. c5restaurant.ca
