Pizzeria Libretto

We hit up the new pizza spot on Ossington tonight for dinner. I've been stoked for this joint to open up as it's right in the hood, and we need more restaurants around here. I assume once Now reviews this place it's gonna be the jump off cause it's kind of like Terroni's, traditional, simple Neapolitain food. We ordered the buttermilk calamari with romesco sauce (very good, but could have used more salt in my opinion), an amazing salad with arugula, pear and toasted walnuts, and the traditional Margherita pizza (D.O.P) a.k.a sauce made from San Marzano tomatoes, delicious, wood-fired taste. The menu is small, keeping it simple, but with other delicious items such as bruschette with spicy sausage, pesto and goat's cheese, and duck confit pizza which smelled amazing. Prices were good too, with the calamari and salad at $9 each, and the pizza at $12. I think this joint will be an Ossington institution soon enough, I might have to go back this weekend. Check the website for more info. 221 Ossington Ave. 416-532-8000

The space is so new you can still the drywall! Its a really gorgeous space and with the good atmosphere and pleasent staff it's going to be very busy. Food wise, it was ok, but I still need to try more off their menu, especially the "duck confit" pizza. So I reserve judgement. The buttermilk calamari was a bit rubbery chewy, thick rubber bands but it was definitely fresh. (JonandKate+8, what what?) The margarita za was finished with a sprinkle of flaked salt that made it kinda too salty for me. They should have used the salt on the calamari instead. Terroni is still better but at least we have a fashionable alternative on Ossington. Top marks for the salad!
