Sushi Kaji

I'm probably not saying anything new here, but we went to Kaji the other week and it was off the hook. For those who don't know, Kaji is arguably the best sushi spot in Toronto. Kaji San imports his fish daily from Tokyo harbour blah blah blah, we've all heard all it before. Go on Chowhound and read the posts, the sushi snobs are all over this joint. Kaji can get expensive if you choose the largest "omakase", 7 courses of paradise for $120, and then there's a $100 and $80 tasting menu as well. I apologize for the lack of photos for this post cause I had to use flash and I don't like the way flash makes food look. Bottom line is if you're looking for incredible sushi and cooked seasonal dishes, and if it's a special occasion, book a reservation. (In photos below: Ocean trout and lobster sashimi with lemon and wakame, served with fresh-grated wasabi. Tempura white fish, braised japanese eggplant and green onion in dashi stock). The Kaji website is outdated as menus change seasonally, so keep an open mind and palate. 860 The Queensway, Etobikoke (A.K.A. Way the hell out there) 416-252-2166

Kaji-san has opened up most of the better japanese joints around Toronto for years. but the problem was, he'd get bored and bounce to start a new one. glad he's been posting up at this one for a while now. for sure the most skilled "hands" in the biz in Toronto.

next time you're out in the West Coast, gotta new joint for you to try. you're counterpart has already posted it on his blog.....but yo! real deal authentic taste.
